In 2022 we were finally able to take our first step toward establishing our long dreamed of flock of Natural Colored Corriedale sheep. As a spinner myself, I learned of and soon lusted after the incredible wool produced by Nancy Burns of Marble Peaks Ranch in California. The problem was how to get a starter flock from California to Maine. I reached out to Nancy asking that she keep me in mind – particularly if she or anyone she trusted who might be able to transport and meet up at Rhinebeck or Maryland Sheep and Wool. Unfortunately, early in 2022 Nancy decided that the effects of climate change on her ranch in California had become too severe and she needed to sell her flock. It was now or never.

Over the course of 2022, I found space on 3 different transport trips and slowly built up a small starter flock of 11 from Marble Peaks. Those 11 and 1 stellar ram from Geof and Barb of Ruppert’s Corriedale (picked up at Rhinebeck in Fall of 2022) are the foundation of our flock. We are so excited to see what they produce and honored to have been able to work with such astonishingly talented shepherds while getting started.
