Steamboat Shire Poultry

We currently raise Black Copper Marans, Saxony ducks, and Grey and Buff Toulouse geese.

Our primary goal for all of our breeds is to preserve and improve each variety according to the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection. We are not a large operation, or a profitable operation, and we never will be. We do, however, have hatching eggs, juvenile, and adult stock available on occasion. For more details, check out our sales page.

Black Copper Marans

We hatch approximately 100 Black Copper Marans per year. Our primary focus is breeding exhibition birds that meet the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection. While we care about egg color, it is not our primary focus; it is a secondary selection criteria. We do have Marans available for sale each year, with extra straight run chicks in the spring, started birds throughout the mid to late summer, and occasionally older breeding stock in late fall and early spring.

We are members of the Marans Chicken Club USA and the American Poultry Association

Saxony Ducks

We just can’t say enough good things about our Saxony. They have great temperaments, lay well, are wonderful meat birds, handle the cold, forage like champs, and are just stunning in person. We hatch approximately 100 Saxony per year and actively select for large, meaty birds that meet the APA Standard of Perfection. We hatch out and sell extra ducklings in the spring, have started birds available in the late summer and early fall, and occasionally have breeders available in the late fall and early spring.

Toulouse Geese

By far the most challenging birds we’e working with, we put up with them because we love them. It really is like having a chatty flock of nursery rhyme characters strolling around the property. We do not have any available for sale at this time but are hopeful that we may be able to offer goslings and select started stock in 2019.
